MOLLALA, Oregon - Zach Foushee won the 2025 Callaway Invitational at Arrowhead Golf Club Tuesday for the Oregon PGA Chapter’s first major tournament of the season after a gutsy performance to hold off various challengers.
Scott Erdman of Oswego Lake Country Club (2-under) was the Professional Champion, and Rob Gibbons (1-under) won the Senior Professional Championship.
“Callaway Invitational includes points that go toward the Hudson Cup, that’s why a lot of amateurs play in it, a good points event,” Foushee said. “It was good, I started good and leaked in the middle of the back nine, made double and missed a couple of shorties on 13 and 14, but finished good and got the job done.”
Foushee won the Callaway Invitational in 2023 with a 10-under par tournament. He played in the U.S. Amateur Four Ball two weeks ago alongside Robbie Ziegler, who took second place in the amateur division at 3-under.
Zach and his wife expect a child to be born any day, which may affect his chance at three-peat at the Oregon Amateur in a couple of weeks at Tualatin Country Club. Foushee has won the last two Oregon Amateurs.
Foushee is an amateur from Langdon Farms Golf Club, and was 2 -under through the front nine after birdies on holes 1, 5, and 6 before a bogey on hole 8. He would bounce back with a birdie on 10, to take a 4-stroke lead over Daniel Dolin, Ross Kukula, and Rob Gibbons.
Foushee would double bogey on the 13th hole and bogey the 14th to fall back to 4-under, while Gibbons had birdies on the 10th and 12th to sit one stroke back at 3-under with four holes to play.
Foushee made another bogey on the 15th paired with a Gibbons birdie on 15 to catapult him ahead at 4-under.
But Gibbons would bogey the 16th to pull into a tie with Foushee at 3-under with two to play.
Gibbons would bogey 17 and 18 to finish at 1-under.
Foushee would birdie 18 to finish at 4-under.
Ross Kukula and Gibbons both from Arrowhead Golf Club were tied at 4-under after the first day of the Callaway Invitational held at Arrowhead for the Oregon PGA Chapter’s first major tournament of 2025.
Arrowhead Golf Club has hosted the Callaway Invitational for 21 years. Bryce Fisher who is the general manager of Arrowhead GC won this event in 2019 with a 131 (11-under) the lowest score in tournament history.
“It has been a really special run, we bought the course in 2015, its’ been an incredible decade,” Bryce Fisher said. “This is our 10th year doing it. We grew up here with Rob Gibbons and the Clarizio family, its been an amazing run. So hopefully we have many more years to come running the tournament. It’s pretty cool having the best amateurs and the best pros in the state come and compete. It’s pretty fun to watch.”
Rob Gibbons, was a professional at Arrowhead for many years, won the Callaway Invitational in 2005.
Steven Vancil, who turned pro again about a year ago, works at Arrowhead Golf Club and sits atop the OPGA Senior Player of the Year Senior Points list with 9 wins in 13 events.
“I love the fact that we have our tournament out here at Arrowhead, Callaway does a great job sponsoring it,” Vancil said. “We have a really nice event, and people love coming here, the course is in great shape that’s really exciting, the members love having it here.”
Vancil won the OPGA Senior Player of the Year in 2024.
“My season started off pretty good, my members love playing in the senior events so I try to take as many as I want and have a good time and you end up playing well,” Vancil said. “Its really been a fun start, hopefully I’ll be able to keep playing well. But its more about taking seniors to pro-am’s and have fun. Three of the guys I have played with so far, have had their best score ever, that’s the success, whether I do well there are good times and bad with golf. So how resilient are you in all those things.”
Oregon Chapter PGA members and associates, who are employed as golf professionals on a full-time basis and have their playing privileges play on the OPGA.
The OPGA next majors come at the Oregon Chapter Proactive Sports Cup in October 14 at Willamette Valley, and OPGA Chapter Championship on October 13 at Royal Oaks, and Player of the Year Cup on November 24 at Tualatin Country Club.
The top 20 on the Points List will participate in a year end Player of the year Cup to determine the Oregon Chapter PGA Player of the Year and Oregon Chapter Senior PGA Player of the Year based on the total amount of points.
