The Chapel Golf Club Inspires Backyard Mini Course Fandom
Trevor Morgan created the mini course in his backyard creating a series that follows the action, the trash talk, and the community it all creates

PORTLAND, Oregon - Growing up as a kid, Trevor Morgan lived in the house that everyone wanted to be at. He lived in a house with a half pipe, trampolines, and zip line which inspired his love for hobbies and activities.
In adulthood, he carries that same passion, excitement, and feeling playing and hanging out with friends.
It has come full circle at his home with his boys.
He grew up playing golf and going to church on Sunday’s. But eventually when the golf game captured his heart, he decided to build the Chapel Golf Club.
“I’d go to church every Sunday,” Morgan said. “Fast forward, I join the military and stop going and I take up golf. I start golfing on the weekends, mainly Sundays, I would jokingly tell my wife ‘I’m going to Church’, she knew I was going golfing.”
In 2017 Morgan put a golf simulator in his shop to keep sharpening his game.
“My buddy knowing I call golf ‘church’, says ‘this is like your own ‘Chapel’ from then on it was dubbed The Chapel.” Morgan said.
Years later, in April of 2024, Morgan put a turf putting green down on the floor in The Chapel in his shop. But he had left over turf that needed a new purpose.
“I didn’t want it to go to waste, I thought maybe a putting green strip outside,” Morgan said. “Then I remembered I had these soft rubber golf balls I had bought to practice with and this sparked the idea of a mini course. I took the long turf strip divided it by 9 and made little greens. Now that we had The Chapel and The Backyard Mini Course… the title morphed into The Chapel Golf Club.
“It’s fun playing with my kids in the backyard, I enjoy having the house their friends want to be at. I’ve always gone all in on hobbies, so this didn’t stop when it came to my kids hobbies as well. We built a regulation wiffle-ball field with a home run fence when they were interested in playing. Like any parent, it makes me happy to see my kids happy. I’m basically a child also so it’s a win win.”
The Chapel Golf Club has taken on a life of its own with Backyard Mini Course series featuring Morgan and his son Cole Morgan who will be a sophomore at Barlow High School and played on the boys golf team as the team’s No. 2 player. The Chapel Golf Club has a huge social media following across numerous platforms.
“We first posted the mini course on TikTok April 2024, that’s when it went viral with 3.9 million views. Like most things, you don’t expect to go viral,” Morgan said. “From then on, we started posting on Instagram and YouTube. Those 2 were a little slower to take off, it took a year or so before we had a video hit 500K on those platforms. We currently have 29K followers on TikTok, 8k on YT and 13K on Instagram. Once it started going on Instagram, I started reaching out to people from Oregon that have a little following, Joel was the 1st (and only) to get back to me. He’s a cool dude.”
The Golf Homie or Joel (JP) Sovereign has built his own following online immersing himself in the Oregon golf community and connecting with players at golf courses all over the state.
The two have battled several times in the backyard mini series ‘dad vs friends’ which makes for some fun laughs and competitive trash talk.
Perhaps there are more collaborations in store as the local golf community becomes more aware of The Chapel Golf Club and the following its creating online. There is rumors of other mini golf courses popping up in backyards across the country.
Perhaps even a PGA Tour pro or LPGA Tour player will stop in to challenge Trevor on his home course, full of creativity, adventure, and the pursuit of friendships that go beyond the game.
Cheers!
Check out the match here between Trevor and Joel.
