Hunter Wescott Shoots 64, 8-under to Win OPGA GT Cup

Wescott had 8 birdies and no bogey's on his card on his way to a three shot win

CANBY, Oregon - Hunter Wescott of Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club shot a sizzling 64, 8-under at the Oregon PGA Chapter GT Cup at Willametter Valley Country Club on Tuesday to win the third major of the season as the overall champion.

Wescott started off his round with three straight birdies and finished with eight birdies total, with no bogeys on the card on his way to victory.

“Everything (was going), the putter was on fire that was probably the biggest thing. Made some club alterations this week before another event, and started to see signs that I was hitting the ball better,” Wescott said. “Today, especially, was the day that it all clicked together. Making putts, hitting shots close, a lot of opportunities, I only missed one four-footer that I was dissapointed with, otherwise everything else was great.”

Nick Watts took second place with 67, 5-under.

Aaron Benedetti, Bryce Fisher, and Scott Erdmann finished in a tie for third, all shooting a 69, 3-under.

Mitch Lowe of Glendoveer Golf Course took the Senior Professional GT Cup win, shooting a 69, 3-under.

Wescott entered the Oregon PGA Chapter third major of the season in second place on the Player of the Year points list, behind Nicholas Huff of Riverside Golf and Country Club. Wescott entered the event 126.48 points behind Huff on the points list.

“I’m excited for the last few events of the year and having a great battle through the end of the year. Nick has played some amazing golf all year so it’ll be a fun one to watch play out!” Wescott added.

Wescott earned 120 points for the major win, now sitting just 24.48 points behind Huff for the Player of the Year points list with three events remaining. The OPGA Pro Am Series has events at Pumpkin Ridge Witch Hollow on October 20 and Columbia Edgewater CC on October 27, before the Pacific Golf & Turf - Player of the Year Cup at Tualatin CC on November 24 where the Player of the Year Champion will be crowned.

“We are set up for an exciting race to the finish in our OPGA Player of the Year.” OPGA Executive Director Dominic Marconi said. “With three points events left in our season, and 24.48 points separarting #1 and #2, there is no room for error in their play and it will be fun to watch these players fight to the finish!”

Steve Vancil, of Arrowhead Golf Club, meanwhile, is leading the Senior Player of the Year points list, after winning the award in 2024, alongside Wescott. Vancil has played in 34 events on the OPGA Pro Am Series and Senior Series, amassing an astounding 24 wins. Vancil leads the Senior Player of the Year points list by 733.67 points over Tim Fraley of Awbrey Glen Golf Club.

The Senior Pro Am Series has two events remaining before the Player of the Year Cup, with Stone Creek Golf Course on October 17 and Oregon Golf Association Golf Course on October 24.

It’ll be a sprint to the finish as the OPGA season approaches the Player of the Year Cup, with Oregon golf courses displaying their fall features.
